This article is intended for business owners who have set up a website for their business or are thinking about doing so.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of maximizing the number of visitors to your website by ensuring that your site appears high in the results returned by search engines (eg. Google) for a specific query.
The reason search engine driven traffic to your website is important is because most new visitor/potential customers will find your business through discovery. That means, they will run a search on either Google or Bing and then start checking out results. If your business is not on the front page (mostly top 10 results) then it is unlikely that it would be discovered. Most users do not get past the first page of search results.
The trick to get your website on the front page or even higher up the list is to ensure that SEO plays a key role in every phase of your website design project or when you add additional contents. While this is the primary concern of your website designer, you as a business owner need to have this in mind and ensure it is top priority for your website designer. Because, otherwise, you will have a website that will only be visited by those you share your url with which is not good for business.
The image above is a screenshot for the search query "business emails sierra leone" on Google Search. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th results are all linked to my business, XTRA Tech which provides business emails. Someone searching for that listing would easy discover my website and this can open doors to new customers from near or far.
